President James K. Polk’s Home
Learn how the 11th President fulfilled all his campaign promises and extended our country’s borders from sea to sea, all in one term of office! . Enjoy appetizers in the primitive kitchen and the beautiful garden of the Polk Home. (Cheese, finger foods and fruit tea)

Elm Springs
Next you will arrive at Elm Springs. A brick Greek revival home built in 1838 by James Dick, a wealthy businessman from New Orleans, for his sister Sarah who was the wife of Christopher Todd. It is now the International Headquarters of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Brand new museum and gift shop featuring a wide variety of southern heritage items available nowhere else in the area. After you tour the home, you will enjoy a southern dinner with fried chicken, baked ham, green beans, corn pudding, sweet potatoes, rolls, iced tea, coffee or water.  When finished with dinner we will talk to the new museum and gift shop before leaving for The Athenaeum.

The Athenaeum
Next you will arrive at the Historic Athenaeum in Columbia, TN. Tour the beautiful grounds and the home.  This is all that remains of two famous girl schools that flourished in the area from the 1830’s until the Great Depression.  Built in 1837, the Athenaeum served as the rectory for these two schools and was occupied by the same family for over 130 years.  After your tour you will enjoy an assortment of southern desserts, coffee and water on the back covered porches of this beautiful Antebellum home.

Southern Foods Culinary Tour


President James K. Polk Home
The only remaining residence of our 11th President except the White House. After your tour of the home, museum, gardens and gift shop, you will be treated to a cooking demonstration in the detached kitchen. When the demonstration is completed, you will sample light refreshments from the Polk Association’s award winning cookbook, Politics and Provisions. This visit will make you appreciate your modern kitchen. How would you like to bake a cake controlling the temperature with a poker instead of a knob?

Enjoy a down home Southern meal at Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant. Whether you have their specialty of fried chicken, pulled pork or something equally delicious you will not go away hungry!
Rippavilla 
We hope you have saved a little room for one more treat at Rippavilla ……Coffee, tea, and pie from Pie Sensations! This was the site of an important breakfast of Confederate Generals on the morning of the Battle of Franklin. In addition to enjoying this beautiful home you will and learn the history of the Cheairs family. The Greek Revival-style home that stands today was built in the mid-1850’s by Nat Cheairs, who served as a major in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry during the Civil War.
