Learn how the 11th President fulfilled all his campaign promises and extended our country’s borders from sea to sea, all in one term of office! . Enjoy appetizers in the primitive kitchen and the beautiful garden of the Polk Home. (Cheese, finger foods and fruit tea)
Arrive at Rippavilla Plantation for your tour of this magnificent Antebellum mansion. Rippavilla was the site of a civil war tribunal breakfast of Confederate Generals on the morning of the Battle of Franklin. An appetite is required for Tennessee’s most unique dining experience, Rippavilla Plantation’s Southern Extravagance, a southern dinner featuring foods that would have been grown on the plantation, all cooked and presented in the fashion it was customarily served to visitors of this working farm for generations. (Southern fried chicken, baked country ham, corn pudding, southern green beans, sweet potato casserole, rolls and iced tea)
Top off the tour with dessert, tea and coffee at Elm Springs. A brick Greek revival home built in 1838 by James Dick, a wealthy businessman from New Orleans, for his sister Sarah who was the wife of Christopher Todd. It is now the International Headquarters of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The gift shop here features a wide variety of southern heritage items available nowhere else in the area. The only remaining residence of our 11th President except the White House. After your tour of the home, museum, gardens and gift shop, you will be treated to a cooking demonstration in the detached kitchen. When the demonstration is completed, you will sample light refreshments from the Polk Association’s award winning cookbook, Politics and Provisions. This visit will make you appreciate your modern kitchen. How would you like to bake a cake controlling the temperature with a poker instead of a knob?

Enjoy a relaxing tea service in the double parlor of this beautiful, historic southern home. This was the site of an important breakfast of Confederate Generals on the morning of the Battle of Franklin.
