Polk’s America Lecture Series – Dr. Mark Cheathem
April 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Little Magician, a.k.a. Sandy Whiskers, a.k.a The Sly Fox of Kinderhook, a.k.a Martin Van Buren applied his New York political machine strategies to the Andrew Jackson presidential campaign in 1828, bringing forth a new era of campaign politics in the wake of the “corrupt bargain.”
Dr. Mark Cheathem, author of “Andrew Jackson, Southerner,” will be April’s guest lecturer in our ongoing Polk’s America Series. The Cumberland University professor will be presenting on his new book, “The Coming of Democracy: Presidential Campaigning in the Age of Jackson.” In addition to being a Jackson scholar and award winning author, Dr. Cheathem is the project director and co-editor of the Martin Van Buren papers.
